Help Sweetheart One Sock #4789 find her home

Sweetheart One Sock wants to be your filly. (Photo © Anne Novak, all rights reserved.)

This curious little filly (freezemark: 11614789) was rounded up at Triple B when she was 3 months old. She’s now about 11 months old and wants to find her forever home and family so she is never separated again from those she loves.

She is at Palomino Valley Center, about 25 minutes outside of Reno. Their number is 775-475-2222 and they open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. PST Monday – Friday, Saturday open from 8 a.m. to noon and closed on Sunday.

We suggest filling out BLM’s adoption paperwork and faxing it to PVC. Approval can be done in advance so that way when you find your dream horse and are already approved then you can adopt him or her quickly.

Feel free to contact us with any questions since we have experience with adoptions. We can also refer you to a couple of trainers to gentle your horse.

Adopt a mustang and save them from an unknown fate.

As of February 2, 2012 she is still available for adoption. Spread the word on Facebook and Twitter so Sweetheart can find a home.

Thank you.

UPDATE: As of December 2012 the BLM reports she is now being held close by at the closed-to-the-public Indian Lakes facility.

  1. Can someone help me to filling out adoption form for BLM; I like the 9mo. Sweetheart One Sock filly! Need to know more about her AND HOW THIS IS DONE?

  2. She is smart and curious so she will be responsive to gentling and bonding with you.

Please call The BLM adoption facility at Palomino Valley near Reno. Their number is 775-475-2222. Give them her tag number and point them to her photo on this website so you are sure you fill out the paperwork for the right horse.

Here is the downloadable adoption paperwork: http://on.doi.gov/xZlC7d

You can fax in your application. Their fax number is (775) 475-2053.

Be sure to call them to make sure they received it. Ask them when your application will be approved and write down the name of the government employee you are speaking with. Generally it’s a good idea to make sure everything is in writing so there is no confusion.

If you have any questions about filling out the application the government employee at PVC will provide you with the answers.

Can you adopt Sweetheart One Sock and a pal for her? They seem to travel better if they are not alone and of course the whole gentling experience is easier on the horses if they have a buddy. Plus the transition to your home is easier too and they have each other to play with.

I believe the cost to adopt on site is $50. Please verify this with the employee.

We had a nice experience using a Parelli based trainer nearby to halter gentle the wild horses we adopted and suggest taking it slow. Wild horses have a lot to process so taking it slow and spreading the training out over more time prevents them from shutting down.

Once the mustangs are halter gentled people can work with them easier at home.

If you would like us to scout out a buddy for Sweetheart One Sock then let us know and we will be happy to find a kind buddy she is already compatible with in her corral.

This is where Sweetheart One Sock is:
The National Wild Horse and Burro Facility at Palomino Valley Center (PVC) in Reno/Sparks, Nevada

Directions: The facility is located approximately 20 miles north of Reno/Sparks, Nevada. From Interstate 80, take Exit 18 (Pyramid Way/State Road 445.) PVC is north about 20 miles to Ironwood Road. Turn east on Ironwood to reach the facility.

Feel free to contact us with any other questions and keep us posted!

  3. As of today this filly is still available for adoption. Let’s help her find a home.

  4. Did you get help to fill out the paperwork? BLM says she’s still available.

  5. Okay, tag #4789. Just not used to seeing the entire freeze mark number posted.
BLM using the last four numbers on the tag & for identification as well.

Thank you Anne, I hope your efforts can get her a loving forever home. I will try to help all of them get a chance at that dream. Hope to get out to PVC this week for photos & tag numbers….
