Meet the new Bureau of Land Management propaganda mouthpiece who just voted to kill 45,000 American wild horses and burros in holding

pm-ben-masters-headshot

Ben Masters claims, in his PRO-KILL statement on 9/10/16, that there are 3,160 wild horses in the area he visited on the BLM tour last week. He visited Dolly Varden Spring in Antelope Valley, Nevada. One of our members was there too.

A well established local journalist, Larry Hyslop wrote about the wild horses at Dolly Varden Spring on 8/20/16. According to Hyslop there are 1,100 wild horses. Ben Masters, a new Wild Horse & Burro Advisory Board member, claimed there were three times as many in his PRO-KILL statement on 9/10/16.

So who is telling the truth?

How many wild horses are out there? Where is the evidence?

Ben Masters only holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University. He produced and played himself in the film, UNBRANDED, a Bureau of Land Management propaganda film with all those talking heads forced into the story of an epic journey.

  1. Ben Masters allowed himself to be duped with BLM propaganda…touring one HMA and being fed false information…then votes to kill our wild horses because they are an “invasive species”……Shame on Ben Masters.

  2. Ben Masters????? Why???? Prayers that our God will protect his precious creatures, once and for all. Miracles happen. I am calling for one now. In Jesus Name let God come down and make this change. Jules Horsewalker

  3. Anytime our Government does their so called studies of mustang numbers on their protected areas by law we are lied to. They are our heritage and what we are doing to them in roundups cruelly and having them put in holding pens for years of unnatural
sick conditions for their well being is anything but acceptable. We have laws in place to protect them and are doing quite the opposite to destroy them totally. Wake up, someone is making a nice salary for their lies. Many people are profiting for their torture and slaughter. The human race is such a disappointment. Save these beautiful creatures for all of us to share with their deserving heritage.

  4. Typical for anti-wildlife people- lie about the population numbers to justify their slaughter !!

  5. What makes Ben Masters an expert at anything he and his wealthy friends from college were documented , horrible for the mustangs adventure across the west although they themselves were pretty comfy with all the back up they had come on America help these horses .

  6. I seriously doubt that the BLM with euthanize 44,000 wild horses and burros currently in holding pens, as that will cost too much money, plus how will they dispose of all the bodies? Instead, they will put them up for auction and let them be purchased by kill buyers who will ship them into Mex. or Canada for slaughter: If you don’t understand the horror of that decision, read this: Saving America’s Wild Horses

With drumming hooves, they come running.
With tails flagged high, they come running,
With flowing manes, they come running.
With flared nostrils, they come running.

    Oh, what a glorious sight!

Clouds of prairie dust mark their passing.
The scent of crushed sage comes drifting.
    Glistening hides in sunlight, reflecting.
    Separated mares, exhausted foals nickering.

    Oh, what a careening flight!

What would cause this reckless running?
Over rocky hills, unshod hooves come crashing.
    Older horses lose their footing
    Lathered sweat whitely spraying.

    Oh, what a panicked flight!

Exhausted, on splayed legs, with sides heaving
Too spent to nicker at their mothers’ leaving
    Foals collapse, roiling dust enshrouding
From the chopper blades’ wild whirling.

    Oh, what a tragic flight!

The strong ones lead, the rest conforming
As they heed the fences’ hazing
    Into the catch pens’ terminating
    Rails forcing a bewildered milling.

Oh, what an end to their flight!

Looking for lost foals, mares pacing
Bloated bags with warm milk dripping
    A mute and painful weeping
    O’er the Truth so horrifying.

Innocence, a victim of their flight.

    Stallions answer Nature’s calling
    Rearing, striking, biting, screaming
    Close-quarter conflicts inciting
    Instinctive challenges contesting

The bloody purpose of their flight.

    Growing herds expanded grazing
Might harm the desert tortoise feeding
Politicians paid for by Big Oil, Big Mining
    Approved detailed plans for exterminating.

Greed, the “No Exit” signage of their flight.

Some spend months in metal pens confining
Forgotten, rains ease their frantic thirsting
Thousand rib and hip bones testifying
    Slow starvation caused their dying.

Human error the Reaper’s demise of their flight.

Too few selected for public adopting
    Wild Horse Protection Act ignoring
    Auctioned prices climbing, ever rising
The “Killer Man” nods and ends the bidding.

One final sorting changes the nature of their flight.

Steel trailers travel to border crossings
    Squeezed into plywood crates, foreboding
Bewildered captives endure hours of flying
No hay or water to ease their silent suffering.

Japan’s slaughter houses, the destination of their flight.

Electric prods keep dazed mustangs moving
On slimy steel, hooves slipping, horses falling
They’re lined up, wild eyed with nostrils snorting
At the stench of filth and hot blood flowing.

The Kill Box, the vile termination of their flight.

Spinal cords severed by Ice-pick stabbings
Strong legs collapse to the sounds of groaning
Hind legs wrapped in chains are lifting
Through cut throats, life’s blood is draining

Can glazed eyes see their souls take flight?

Wild burros, horses, mules trapped for Federal culling
Race horses, ponies too old for sports or breeding
Loyalty, trust ignored in the equine steaks now steaming
As patrons of foreign dining enjoy their gourmet gorging.

Ignorant of the bloody, heinous outcome of their flight.

Horses carried men in battle, no beribboned medal dying,
Pulled prairie schooners ‘cross the plains unending
Built railroads, carried mail, plowed fields for planting
In Arlington, proudly paraded veterans to their final resting.

We must preserve, forever, the freedom of their flight.

With drumming hooves, they come running.
With tails flagged high, they come running,
With flowing manes, they come running.
With flared nostrils, they come running.

Oh, what a thundering, glorious sight!

  7. This guy is an IDIOT !!!
He doe t have his facts straight .. So he’s just another BLM LOSER!!
The BLM is an embarrassment and should be cleared out and start over with people who understand STEWARDSHIP and respect.
This really goes for all the wildlife in our country.. The BLM HAS FAILED ALL OF THEM!!
The cow and the horse have lived together for years and years and all was good.. Then the BLM gets involved and some rancher hands out money to someone in the BLM and now the rancher is dictating the lives and policy of our beautiful horses.
This BS has got to stop NOW!!
If there is ever a ride on Washington let me know. I’ll be there with my horse.

  8. The only solution these people can think of is to kill the animals. These beautiful horses deserve a lot better than BLM and their cohorts that want to kill these animals. Stop the slaughter NOW.

  9. We humans are the invasive species. The “for profit, eco system destroying” cattle and sheep are the invasive species. MONEY, JUST FOLLOW THE MONEY……
So sad you have sold out Ben to the detriment of our wild horses and burros.

  10. On this day of remembrance of so many Americans and other nationalities lost, reading about the BLM’s choice to kill so many beautiful beings is very sad. There are many who have come up with non-lethal and more humane solutions to help curb the population. Actually didn’t see much compassion from Ben Masters who seems more interested in completing his epic film. He says something about the horses being good stock, “some of them anyway.” What does that mean? They are not things!

  11. Well Mr. Ben Masters seems to be great at the EXPLOITATION of the wild horse now, doesn;t he? I was reserving my comments until the appropriate time, which finds itself as now. Just another person bought and paid for with special interests, nothing from truthful witnessing. I continue to be disgusted with this propaganda on behalf of BLM Criminals, which is exactly what it is.

  12. Congress voted mustangs the spirit of America and a National Treasure. They must be saved, they protect our forests from fire by eating the under brush, when they are present. Stop killing our spirit and our Gift from God

  13. What a magnificent piece you have written. It should be in op-eds nationwide. Truly amazing, I m tearing up as I read it.

  14. We the tax payers who own these pubic lands demand that no wild horse be killed and that theses welfare ranchers share the land. It does not belong to them.

  15. Ben boy what the heck are you thinking-get rid ofn the cows -they make our country obese and they take land away from crops for starving people=PZP BABY-DON’T ADVISE KILLING OUR HORSES

  16. Here’s a response I got to the email I sent to him and all the other members of the commission:

“I’m new to the advisory board and am also very frustrated with the situation and with the BLM in many regards. Here’s a writeup I made that explains how the recommendation to sell and euthanize came to be:

    https://www.facebook.com/notes/ben-masters/the-state-of-wild-horses-burros-september-2016-whb-advisory-board-meeting/1604227873207723

If he’s frustrated, why on earth did he vote YES?!

  17. Go to court, with a good lawyer. Either take depositions of the new Master, or grill him at the hearing/trial on the stand, driving at points such as: what is his connection with the Bureau; with the cowboys; with the cattle men and companies; whether or not he is receiving any kind of compensation, directly or indirectly, from any of the above or from the outcome of the bureau’s actions.
This talk on this website isn’t strong enough to get the necessary results…go to court – NOW.

  18. please leave them alone nature will decide who lives and who dies i wish you guys would let nature take its course please let them live and if you destroy the animals then you are nothing but an animal yourself i will be watching you carefully home boys

  19. What the hell are you thinking. Those horses are our horses not yours. You people are as bad or worse then hitler. You are doing this so your buddies the welfare ranchers can have more room for their fucking cattle. I pray you have to sleep with your eyes open and some in the back of your head. You and your families will suffer because of you and your goons. We the people own the horses and land you took them off if. If ut us a fight you bastards want. You will get one. Your heartless, cruel murders that is no better then others that are locked up in prison. You are gonna get yours and the sweet part of that is you don’t know when. Your families will suffer because of your actions. You can lie till hell freezes over and try to make people believe it is best. When un all actuality your pockets are being lined with blood money. Why should we the people give a rats ass about how things are done. You sure as f-cking don’t care and make the law work in your favor.

  20. Stop the greed. Leave the wild horses alone. People need to eat less beef. The cattle are the ones ravishing the land. Stop blaming the Mustangs. Please help protect these beautiful animals!!!

  21. Leave them alone!! They are God’s beautiful creatures!! If you touch them Karma will be coming for you with a vengeance!!!

  22. Do not doubt they will kill the horses in holding like they say. They need room for new horses as they round them up. And who do you think you are, Ben Masters? You made a movie….and got brainwashed!!! You should have seen the other side…the horse’s view. They can take much better care of themselves on their own w/o “our” help …. without man’s interference. LEAVE these beauties alone!!! You know NOTHING, Ben Masters!!! Nor does the BLM!!!

  23. Janice Mitich, your poem is magnificent. I thought so yesterday, but didn’t specify you when I replied to your comment. I hope you are able to have it published and perhaps placed in op-eds.

  24. The problem that the BLM has, at least one of the problems, is that the decision makers and the enforcers live in the same communities as those that wish to de-federalize and in this case, kill horses.

The ranchers that graze on BLM and FS lands get permits to do so at a fraction of the cost that ranchers should be charged. By law ranchers are responsible to maintain the lands and watersheds that their cattle damage.

I don’t know if this is true or not but I’ve spent some time in Utah and talked with some ranchers. One rancher in particular said that he was going to sell his grazing rights and retire a millionaire.. Like I said, this is just what I heard from a rancher. Perhaps it was braggadocio but then there are elements of BLM/FS law that are winked at and perhaps selling your grazing rights is one of them.

This is welfare of the highest degree and THESE are the people that whine about socialism the loudest when THEY are profiting from it. The hypocrisy astounds me.

  25. This man is a disgrace. I have been following the plight of the wild horses and burros of america for many years and the problems that the BLM says they are related to. There is enough land, water, and grazing pasture throughout the entire USA for all to co-exist. The dirty bastards that round up these majestic animals with only one thought in mind and that is the “SLAUGHTER OF ALL” are like the plague. They are sweeping the united states searching for ways to destroy every last horse and burro and the slime bags are waiting to truck them to Canada and Mexico for a few bucks just to be rid of them. So they are stockpiled in holding pens and forgotten about under some superficial promise to rescue them. Ashamed to admit I live in Canada for this very reason. I am fighting to shut them down but it is a long journey. I will not stop and neither should you.

  26. What a puke, he’s a total ass!! He acts like he cares about these horses yet he talks about them Luke there parasites, he’s all for the ranchers and there cattle, to hell with the cattle we have enough cattle land we owe it to our horses to live free!!

  27. There is enough land, water, and grazing pasture throughout the entire USA for all to co-exist. Let them live free like God and nature intended.

  28. I have been stating that all along , the Wild herds will manage themselves and I Apologize but I can not go along with any kind of management for our Wild Horses and Burros it is not needed except to let greedy cattle , mining and energy corporations have more control .

  29. Demand an Urgent Congressional Investigation and Head Count of all Wild Horses and Burros in Captivity and in Freedom! On September 9, 2016, the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse & Burro Advisory Board voted to kill the alleged 45,000 wild horses in tax-payer funded holding facilities and pastures. Do they want to cover-up the fraud that has been going on for years by killing the evidence? Read more about the new petition here: http://protectmustangs.org/?p=9790

  30. It is long past time to stop killing innocent animals who have a right to live their lives as nature intended.

  31. Let the wild horses live. Stop cruel round up by air that run them to death or to exhaustion. Guild stallions in a responsible way to control the population and release back into the wild. But don’t kill them!!!! Complete and utter shame!!!

  32. This was a slick PR tour aimed at blaming the wild horses, but shallow in its analysis of taking what is happening out there beyond the superficial to the root causes of what is going on. You have to be pretty inactive mentally and/or uncaring to just buy all this anti-wild horse propaganda. This is why I wrote the Response to Ben Masters (which see). Also check out my website http://www.thewildhorseconspiracy.org Let us pray and protest that this recommendation by the board not be accepted by the BLM!

  33. Pretty boy? Don’t think so! Pretty is, as pretty does! Besides, I don’t think he’s attractive.

  34. What a disappointment Ben Masters is to me. I watched the movie thinking how adventurous they were, and how it might shed a positive light on the wild mustangs. I may not know all of the facts about the land and grazing situation, but cold blooded slaughter of a living being is horrific, cruel, and evil, and round up with helicopters causes extreme suffering and fear. I wish that money would lose its value completely, and humans would cease to be so primitive as to eat other beings on this earth. I am not naive to have this mental attitude. I observe suffering caused by greed and ego and think that I am not kin to that species. I am starting to realize that human evolution is at a crossroad (or fork in the road). Maybe not so different from the Neanderthal/human fork in the road.

  35. Correct me if you wish — BUT — what would be truly wonderful — throughout the U.S. there would exist a huge Sanctuary/Ranch, etc. where any horse can be brought in with or without donation — similar to ST. JUDE’S CHILDRENS HOSPITAL — everyone on the planet donates and the facility NEVER refuses any child no matter what — The same should apply to horses — horses should NOT be held in pens, pacing to & fro in the outdoors, NOT be abandoned on roads, NOT be abandoned & imprisoned on farms, falling victim to the weather, etc. — As people, as a member of the human race, we should NOT tolerate the neglect & abuse these horses are receiving — every horse should have a place to call home, whether it be a temporary or a permanent one — there should be a HORSE REFUGE.
    ==========
My heart breaks for the horses — the ranchers want the land and instead of doing the RIGHT THING by our horses, they decide to destroy this magnificent animal — with all the power & wherewithal of the Ranchers, you’d think they’d DO something life-affirming for these horses, taking the horses’ interests to heart, their right to live —
    =======
Someone, FOR ONCE, must protect our animals, wild & otherwise, along with our natural environment — all animals are vulnerable, innocent & at our mercy — they have rights — we MUST be their VOICE.

  36. I am sorry but Our Wild Horses do have a sanctuary, it ‘s called BLM and National Forest Service Land . There is no over population of Wild Horses or Burros coming straight from The Academy of Natural Science . We need to return the ones in holding pens back to their native rangeland and remove the cattle from over grazing . Times have changed and the corporate cattle growers need to step back and pay to feed the cattle that make them a living instead of stealing from the American people and the Wild Horses and Burros.

  37. One sick snowflake…..killing them with helicopter chases and then slaughter them….All because they want more land for ranchers.
