Brutal experiments continue on pregnant wild horses!

Did you know that right now the Bureau of Land Management, under the Department of Interior is still funding cruel experiments on wild pregnant mares for population control?

Keep in mind that the National Academy of Sciences Report from 2013 stated there is “no evidence” of overpopulation. It’s the end of 2016 and there is still no evidence of alleged overpopulation and the thugs in control won’t do a headcount. They just want to keep abusing innocent wild horses and burros who should be living in freedom. Sickos!

The brutal tubal ligation research on pregnant wild mares in Oregon was stopped due to public outrage but that’s it. All the other tax-payer funded experiments on pregnant wild mares continue. They are cruelly experimenting on them now! Did you realize that?

The Department of Interior is giving away grants totaling up to 11 million dollars for population control experiments–on pregnant wild mares. Are these experiments causing pain and suffering and do they violate the rights of wild horses and burros to live free? Yes. This a wicked violation against their freedom.

So while everyone was distracted by real threats of killing and slaughtering wild horses, the brutal Nazi-like experiments–mostly with injections–continue . . .

America’s last wild horses should never be used as “lab animals”. Never. How is this even legal to experiment on federally protected wild horses?

Wild horses have been cruelly subjected to experimentation for decades. This cruelty has been going on for so long that the Bureau of Land Management and their supporters think this is “normal”. Experimentation on federally protected wild horses must be against the law but there is so much corruption within wild horse and animal advocacy that no one is stopping this! Those organizations who support using Pesticide PZP as birth control will not fight against experimenting on wild horses because they are still involved with PZP experiments or receive funding from those that are.

2017 is the time to fight back the evil cruelty inflicted upon America’s innocent and voiceless wild horses and burros! They should be protected from experimentation, protected from being sold to slaughter, protected from being killed and protected to live freely in the wild.

We’d like to protect wild horses from this abuse. Will you join us?

Urgent: Take action now to stop the proposed extermination of 45,000 wild horses and burros

While everyone is distracted, committee members in the U.S. Senate are making life and death decisions for wild horses and burros on your behalf.

You can use your voice for the voiceless before it’s too late! Read the sample letter below to help you with phone calls, faxes and emails:

Dear Senator Feinstein, Senator Murkowski ,Senator Blunt and Senator Udall:

We realize you are about to decide on the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) wild horse and burro budget for 2017 on behalf of the American people.  The BLM has been influenced by the livestock, oil and gas and other mining interests stating that Herd Areas are designated for multiple use, conveniently and illegally ignoring the fact that wild horses and burros under Sec. C get ‘devoted principal presence of their range areas’. We ask that you stand up for them.

Will the BLM use Americans’ tax dollars to kill off our wild horse and burro herds since the BLM’s own Advisory Board has recommended that 45,000 wild horses and burros be destroyed?  This suggestion is disgusting and against the law and against the Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971 passed to protect these incredible national treasures.

Therefore we ask that all BLM monies be specifically utilized for the following usages.

1.)  First, American tax dollars be allocated to maintain, feed and care for all the wild horses and burro’s in holding.

2.) Get an independent headcount of all wild horses and burro’s in holding and on public land with public and press participation to insure that the head count is accurate as requested in this petition (https://www.change.org/p/u-s-senate-investigate-the-wild-horse-burro-count-in-captivity-and-freedom) This will insure BLM cannot skew their numbers for more BLM monies.

3.) BLM is required to start implementing a return wild horse and burro policy to their Herd Areas with a drop food and water program when necessary. This will greatly reduce spending five dollars a day on feeding the more than 13,000 wild horses and burros warehoused in feedlot settings known as short-term holding.

4.)  BLM must return the 22 million acres to the Herd Area’s of the original 53 million acres designated to them which they have removed without any congressional approval.  The BLM is blatantly lying to the public saying they have not removed any Herd Areas.   Removing thousands of wild horses while removing their Herd Areas and allowing for livestock grazing beyond their legal limits puts undo pressures upon the land that would otherwise not exist were the wild horses and burros management program being followed as the original law intended.

5.) Do not transfer federally protected wild horses to states, cities and counties. It would result in them being sold into the slaughter pipeline when the WILD horses don’t do well as “work horses”. We see the cruel fiasco looming in South Dakota when wild horses have been impounded by the state. They are planning on selling them at a livestock auction with kill-buyers licking their chops.

6.) Stop the BLM propaganda machine to fool Americans paid for with tax dollars. The BLM has misinformed the American public about wild horses and burros saying they are overpopulated and destructive to the environment when in fact they are nature’s top soil enhancer and are designed to protect the plants they need for survival. Keep in mind that wild horses are indigenous to the Americas.

7.) Due to the BLM’s illegal selling off at least 1,700 healthy wild horses to a private kill buyer who made thousand of dollars at the expense of taxpayers losing thousands of dollars, we feel you need to take charge and protect the lives of innocent captive wild horses and burros.

2 special needs wild horses escape death at roundup

Day 2 of Devil’s Garden Roundup courtesy Devils Garden Wild Horses FB Page

Protect Mustangs will help find homes for 2 wild horses who would have been killed at Modoc Forest roundup

ALTURAS, Ca.(September 27, 2016)–Last week Anne Novak, founder and director of Protect Mustangs reached out to U.S. Forest Service staff with an offer to help find homes for any wild horses rounded up with pre-existing conditions–who would be killed–not offered a chance at adoption. Tonight Novak received the first call from Forest Service staff.

“It’s always bothered me that after wild horses heal from injuries and survive in the wild, they are chased by helicopters, rounded up and killed upon capture because they don’t seem like they would get adopted,” says Novak. “Some people don’t want a riding horse. Some people want to save a life.”

So far, two wild horses from the roundup have pre-existing conditions. One is believed to be pigeon toed due to a broken foot that healed in the wild. The other mustang’s condition is unknown at this time.

“They need to go to loving homes to become pets–not riding partners–or go to sanctuaries,” explains Novak. “They have survived in the wild and that’s a harsh life. They deserve our compassion after the roundup and they deserve to live.”

After the mustang protectors make an assessment of the wild horses with pre-existing conditions, a sanctuary might be a more suitable forever home. It’s too early to tell.

These two California wild horses from Modoc County will join their herd-mates at the Bureau of Land Management’s Litchfield holding Corrals near Susanville. There they will be prepared for adoption with the others.

Adoption applications are here: Protect-Mustangs-BLM-facility-adoption-app

    • Cost to adopt is $125.
    • Adoptions by appointment only, call (530) 254-6575.
    • Open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Summer hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The facilities are closed on federal holidays. Please call for current information.
    • Information is available 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-545-4256.
    • Completed adoption applications can be sent to Videll Retterath by e-mail vrettera@blm.gov or fax (530)252-6762.
    • The Corrals are located 21 miles east of Susanville , CA on US Highway 395.
    • Adopters receive title to wild horses after one year

Protect Mustangs will post photos as soon as we get them. Tax-deductible Gas donations are always needed to help us help the wild ones.

Members of the public with questions about the BLM’s requirements for adoption, questions about the wild horses with pre-existing conditions, who want to help network homes for wild horses who would be killed for pre-existing conditions, need trainer referrals, or want some tips on how to build an inexpensive shelter are invited to email the mustang protectors at Contact@ProtectMustangs.org

“I pray we can change the trend of killing special needs wild horses at roundups,” says Novak. ‘Someone’s going to fall in love with them. After all they’re still American mustangs.”

Wild horses and controversy ~ Notes from the range

From Tuesday’s Horse:

Thanks to our good friend Terry we received an interesting email containing an embedded post.

The controversy surrounding wild horses on public lands and the cruel and often deathly mismanagement by the federal agency Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is not news to us and no doubt not news to you.

We have read numerous writings over the years by those out in the field from experts to interested observers.

What is pretty clear is that the BLM and their cohorts simply do not want wild horses off public lands. They want them dead. Historically this is a decades old problem.

Here’s the opening salvo from the post I refer to:

“Soon we will not have available our historic link to wild horses. Ignorance is dominating the wild horse issue, as if trading slaughter for birth control to extinction is an answer to save them! No! It is simply an overwhelming amount of ignorance, from those who have no clue in the matter of wild horse management nor anything of wild horse virtue and necessity. Our American Icon has so many positive attritbutes, and unless one knows of nature, our environment, and our natural ecological systems, they will never know, nor acknowledge the benefits of wild horses on our public lands. Below are notes and from limited distribution, so perhaps new information to many. . .” — John Cox, The Cascades

The writer continues by pointing out problems that the BLM and the federal government continue to ignore.

There are too many cattle on public lands. Check. Wherever they are, the cattle are destroying the ecosystems. Check. The Humane Society continue to promote its pesticide PZP they say to help control herd numbers when it appears to be destroying them. Check.

We have not heard the following before.

The BLM allow public land ranchers (or “welfare ranchers” — we will come back to that in a minute) to do as they please which he says results as follows:

“Public health hazards are developing, aggressively I might add, even while I am writing this, and beef from public lands grazing is diseased.”

Diseased. Interesting.

The writer goes on to say that he does not know to what degree (as in percentage) but cites the BLM’s inadequate checks and balance system as the reason for it.

Now you may think that public land ranchers — some of whose contracts with the federal government go back generations — do not contribute that much to the beef industry. We do not have the data. But even if we were able to get figures from the BLM could we believe them given the BLM’s history of playing with numbers.

Petition: Demand #NoKill 45,000 Wild Horses & Burros in Holding

Petition Target: United States Congress

We request that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) return the 45,000 captive wild horses and burros, now at risk of being killed, back to public land Herd Areas established with the 1971 Free Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act.

The 45,000 captive wild horses and burros are being hoarded in taxpayer funded ranches and holding facilities to make room for commercial livestock, fracking and other industries on public land. The BLM makes more than $4.3 billion annually from onshore oil and gas development, so they should have taken care of the wild horses and burros they chased off public land to rake in all that profit. But instead, the Wild Horse & Burro Advisory Board has recommended that the BLM kill all the captive 45,000 wild horses and burros they unjustly call “unadoptable”.

The BLM claims the 45,000 captive mustangs and burros are “unadoptable” because they were not picked at adoption events, and thus received 3-Strikes or are over the age of 10. But that’s not true. These adorable captive wild horses and burros were never given a fair chance at finding loving adoptive homes or sanctuaries.

The public is outraged. Wild horses and burros are living symbols of freedom and the pioneering spirit of the American West.

Recently I went to a short term holding facility to help rescue some 3-Strikers and made this short video of Snowbunnie (#2256) and Suzie King (#2473) 3-Strike Friends: https://www.facebook.com/ProtectMustangs/videos/1159846957407655/?pnref=story You can see they were interested in being saved.

After seeing the video, someone came forward to take the pair and give them a loving forever home. Sadly, the BLM made it difficult and unpleasant for the potential new owner, who was in tears at one point because the BLM was giving her such a hard time with the paperwork. I provided support to keep everything on track and then shortly afterwards we delivered the two 3-Strike mustang mares to their safe forever home. The rescue video is here:https://www.facebook.com/ProtectMustangs/videos/1174495795942771/?pnref=story

Since the BLM is not doing their job to publicize available wild horses and burros, and since their customer service is rotten, it’s wrong to call the 45,000 captive wild horses and burros “unadoptable”. They were not given a fair chance. Now that the BLM wants to KILL them all.

Sign this petition to ask that BLM put all the wild horses and burros back on public land to save tax-payer dollars and safeguard their lives. If needed, water wells could be drilled in Herd Areas thus still saving taxpayers millions of dollars. It’s time to restore the natural ecological balance in the West, prevent catastrophic wildfires and #PutMustangsBack.

Meet the new Bureau of Land Management propaganda mouthpiece who just voted to kill 45,000 American wild horses and burros in holding

pm-ben-masters-headshot

Ben Masters claims, in his PRO-KILL statement on 9/10/16, that there are 3,160 wild horses in the area he visited on the BLM tour last week. He visited Dolly Varden Spring in Antelope Valley, Nevada. One of our members was there too.

A well established local journalist, Larry Hyslop wrote about the wild horses at Dolly Varden Spring on 8/20/16. According to Hyslop there are 1,100 wild horses. Ben Masters, a new Wild Horse & Burro Advisory Board member, claimed there were three times as many in his PRO-KILL statement on 9/10/16.

So who is telling the truth?

How many wild horses are out there? Where is the evidence?

Ben Masters only holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University. He produced and played himself in the film, UNBRANDED, a Bureau of Land Management propaganda film with all those talking heads forced into the story of an epic journey.

#BREAKING: Protect Mustangs calls for nationwide protests against killing and sterilizing wild horses and burros

© 2014 Anne Novak, all rights reserved.

© 2014 Anne Novak, all rights reserved.

Protect Mustangs, a 501c3 nonprofit organization calls for protests against the Bureau of Land Management’s (BoLM) Wild Horse Advisory Board’s decision today to euthanize all the allegedly “unadoptable” wild horses in long-term holding. They also voted to push more wild horses through advertised adoption events to strike them out quicker! Under former Secretary Salazar, the BoLM has irresponsibly rounded up more wild horses than they could ever adopt out at once. Is it because Salazar is a fifth generation rancher paying back a promise to the Cattlemen’s lobby? Since then the federal agency has been hoarding America’s wild horses in captivity at huge tax-payer expense without correcting the failed adoption program. Now they want to kill the mustangs they call “unadoptable” and sterilize all the wild horses living in freedom on the range. Protect Mustangs is calling for the Bureau of Land Management to #PutThemBack on the 1971 herd areas in the West and stop sterilization. More than one-third of the herd areas have been zeroed out.

“We will fight this outrageous plan to kill and sterilize America’s icons of freedom and we will win,” states Anne Novak, executive director of Protect Mustangs. “The public is not going to tolerate this. The Bureau of Land Management is a rogue agency and their advisory board is made up of people favoring the livestock industry except for one person. The bogus board of mustang haters needs to be dismantled and recreated with wild horse and burro experts–not cattlemen with a huge conflict of interest. It’s time to put America’s wild horses and burros back on public land where they belong.”

image

Who are the wild horses in long-term holding? Are they mostly 3-Strike mustangs from the BoLM’s failed adoption program with rotten customer service? Others are over 10 years old and should have been left out on the range to live their lives out in peace.

Check back here for updates and donate to Protect Mustangs for legal fees to fight with the law by clicking here www.PayPal.me/ProtectMustangs  or go here to donate on the crowd-funding site: https://www.gofundme.com/FightwithLaw

The fight is on!

Update on Cleo April 2012: We found an adopter for Cleo but the BoLM had already shipped her out. When we told the Nevada BLM that the adopter was willing to go to long-term holding (Midwest) to get her they said that was impossible. They said they would only sell 100 horses at a time out of long term holding. The adopter could only take Cleo. The BLM said it was impossible.

Feds’ Oregon sterilization facility marks their mustangs for sale 5 times higher to discourage good homes from taking them

PM Hines Beauty #2809 Humbolt NV

Bureau of Land Management in Oregon thwarts placement of wild horses with sales rate hike

The same tax-payer funded facility who wants to partner with Oregon State University to conduct population control experiments on Americas pregnant wild mares is price gouging would be buyers of 3-Strikes wild horses to prevent them from going to good homes. The Bureau of Land Management (BoLM) in Oregon at the notorious Hines facility is asking 5 times as much money for each wild horse on the Internet Adoption. All the other facilities across the nation ask $25 or less.

Email your 2 senators and your congressional representative to let them know this is another example of BoLM’s lack of fair customer service. Include this blog post so it’s clear.

pm-hines-sell-mustangs-5-x-higher-vickie

This is just one example of many that show BoLM’s poor customer service in the adoption and 3-Strikes program.

It’s clear the BoLM doesn’t want these wild horses to be adopted into good homes as the law requires but would rather sell them by the truckload to horse traders for slaughter, kill them or give them to henchmen in the states counties and cities as Rep. Chris Stewart’s Amendment on the 2017 Appropriations Bill would allow for “work horses” and most would end up going to slaughter. Obviously that’s their goal.

Stealth mustang roundup in Oregon conducted under emergency loophole

American public outraged wild horses are not relocated on public land

Between August 29 and September 1, a total of 155 horses – 33 foals, 55 mares and 67 studs – were rounded up and removed from public land by the Bureau of Land Management Vale District in Oregon as part of an emergency roundup in the Three Fingers Herd Management Area. Protect Mustangs, a nonprofit preservation organization, wants the family bands to remain intact and be immediately returned to public land. If need be, the organization says the wild horses should be returned to one of the many herd areas that has too few equids.

The wild horses rounded up were transported to the Oregon Adoption and research facility near Burns/Hines, and BLM claims they will be offered for adoption later in the year. Will all the wild horses will be offered for adoption or will some be sold because they are over 10 years old and some used in sterilization experiments at various locations including but not limited to Hines, Oregon?

PM Roundups for research Meme FB

The public is encouraged to watchdog and take photos of the American wild horses ripped from their homes who are now at the Hines Corral Facility, anytime Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. FOIAs should be filed to investigate why the BoLM went ahead despite court documents filed by an advocacy group to halt the proposed Three Fingers Roundup based on a faulty environmental assessment. The public has a right to know the truth.

“This gather was safe and successful for the horses,” said BLM Vale District Manager Don Gonzales. “Our overall goal is to maintain a thriving ecological balance of the Three Fingers HMA and surrounding rangelands, and to preserve the health and well-being of the Three Fingers herd.”

574px-Blm.svg

The Cherry Road Fire, which started August 21, burned about 90 percent of the Wildhorse Basin pasture in the Three Fingers HMA, where more than half of the estimated 279 wild horses in the herd live in freedom. Protect Mustangs wants to know the cause of the fire.

The Bureau of Land Management claims the fire damaged the mature seed heads needed to sustain the wild horses through the coming fall and winter months. They claim the remaining 10 percent of the Wildhorse Basin pasture has limited water resources and forage.

“With the end of their fiscal year approaching and with a roundup in their budget, the Oregon BoLM jumped on an opportunity to stockpile more wild horses in holding who could be at risk of being sold to slaughter in their lifetimes,” says Novak. “Was the public notified of the emergency government roundup so humane observers could attend?’

According to BoLM, each wild horse rounded up had a veterinary assessment upon arrival at the temporary holding corrals. Alleged pre-existing conditions and burn injuries were noted on three animals, and one foal with a severe hernia was euthanized.

Located 25 miles south of Vale, the Three Fingers Herd Management Area (HMA) is bordered on the east by the Owyhee Reservoir, on the south by the Leslie Gulch Road, and on the north by the Owyhee Dam. The herd population is currently estimated at 279 — the BoLM’s Arbitrary Management Level (AML) for the area is only 75-150 wild horses but that is too low for genetic viability of the treasured American herd especially facing climate change.

“America’s wild horses are disappearing in a vicious public land grab,” states Novak. “The public is outraged.”

Do they gain your trust then betray you?

Stop the Roundups!

Judas horse

Do they walk near wild horses often with their camera so they trust them? Then one day they shoot them with Pesticide PZP for population control–when there aren’t enough left in the wild.

Do they tell wild horse lovers that Pesticide PZP is so safe they “could drink it” when they already work for the BLM?

Was it the Emmy, the money or the politics that made them quit fighting for wild horse freedom?

First they pitched their buddies at the BLM for a Pesticide PZP Pilot Program then they switched to a position with the GonaCon® Experiment.  Why?

Since when are vegans pushing for slaughterhouse pig ovaries to be mixed into a pesticide and shot into wild mares? What kind of vegans are they?

They call themselves ‘family planners” for wild and free wild horses when they should call themselves salaried Spin Dr.s pushing pesticides and labeling wild horses “pests”–the worst thing the could have done to this native species.

We will not tolerate the lies and the back-room deals to eventually sterilize our beautiful wild horses–indigenous to this land.

They collaborate with the BLM and do not represent the horse loving people of this land that they try to fool.

Go back to your world focusing on money, power and fame. Leave our wild ones alone. We must protect them for the generations to come. . . for the keepers of the land, animals, sea, sky and stars. . . Go back to your money that cannot buy happiness, love nor peace.

Leave our wild horses alone.
