Mr. President, Wild horses are an indigenous species who prevent wildfires

Wild horses prevent wildfires as an essential part of the thriving natural ecological balance. When the BLM removes native wild horses we see a direct increase in catastrophic wildfires.

It would be much cheaper and better for the environment to leave wild horses alone on public land. Predators exist and fill their niche if Wildlife Services would only stop killing them.

The truth is wild horses are underpopulated. Even the National Academy of Sciences said there is “no evidence” of overpopulation. Perhaps that’s why there are more wildfires.

Bands of wild horses reduce hazardous fuels in areas with varied terrain without the use of poisonous herbicides and that’s good for the environment. Dedicated federally protected wild-horse habitats cover only 11% of public land so increasing their habitat would help prevent more wildfires.

It’s time to look at wildfire prevention holistically. Wild horses should be moved back into the Tahoe Basin area to bring back the balance lost to roundups and removals. Right now there are too few left and the wildfire risk is high.

Please stop treating America’s wild horses like invasive species Mr. President. Read about native wild horses here: http://protectmustangs.org/?page_id=562  Thank you.

  1. What did the Wild Horses Ever do to deserve this INHUMAN,TREATMENT?!SAVE THE ,WILD HORSES!!!!!!!!!

  2. The protection of Mustangs and wild horses is an Urgent MUST!!!

To ignore this would be a crime in itself.

Protect and Support 501c3!!!! Thank You

  3. The advocates for wild horses are not as powerful as the ranching, oil and gas industries but we are huge in numbers. We don’t have the dollars to fight for the horses that the other industries have to lobby against. We need the help of D.C. to stop the horse holocaust. Please stop the decimation of our wild herds!

  4. Please allow these Mustangs to roam free as they have been doing for years. Who are they harming?

  5. I am so sick of all this abuse and unwanted attention in the wrong direction upon Americas Wild Equine’s. These Equine’s are Americas history, Biblical history, Biblical prophecy and gives people a reason to live. I have never been so distraught of such organizations like BLM, who handles Americas Wild Equine’s with such negative force. I just wonder about all of this and wish it would take a turn for the better.

  7. Wild horses are needed to sustain the environment. They are our country’s heritage and belong in and on the land.

  8. I agree with your open letter to the President. I would suggest, you creating a template for people to copy and mail to him (the President) as well. He needs to hear from all of us. Also, posting the address to the white house and BLM would be good idea to.

  9. these animals do not deserve to be abused and mistreated.they help create our country . Their ancestors plowed our fields were our transportation and out live line . Now we abuse them and treat them poorly , the are dignified beings that allow us to sport with them and we as humans they have been our partners , we should not sell out on them and round them up and jail them in small areas, with out shelter and send them to Mexico or Canada for meat. please help treat them our horses with dignity and respect !!
