RENO, Nev. —The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is offering two public tours of the Indian Lakes Off-Range Wild Horse and Burro Corral in Fallon, Nevada, on Friday, May 20. The corral is one of three in Nevada that provides care to wild horses and burros removed from the range. Tour attendees will be able to observe a new water sprinkler system designed to increase animal comfort and reduce dust at the facility.

The public tours are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and each will last about two hours. Each tour will accommodate up to 20 people. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The public can sign up to attend and get driving directions to the facility by calling the Palomino Valley Center (PVC) at (775) 475-2222.

About a 90-minute drive east of Reno, the Indian Lakes Off-Range Corral is located at 5676 Indian Lakes Road, Fallon, and is privately owned and operated. Tour attendees will be taken around the facility as a group on a wagon to learn about the facility, the animals, and BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. The new water sprinkler system will be in operation during the tour. The system includes 25 high-powered sprinklers that have the ability to provide cooling and dust abatement for most of the facility.  The sprinklers are supplied by a commercial well that has the ability to pump approximately 700 gallons of water per minute.

The Indian Lakes facility can provide care for up to 3,200 wild horses or burros. The facility encompasses 320 acres containing 43 large holding pens, each pen measuring 70,000 square feet that will safely hold about 100 horses. The horses receive an abundance of feed tailored to their needs each day, along with a constant supply of fresh water through automatic watering troughs. Free choice mineral block supplements are also provided to the animals in each pen. A veterinarian routinely inspects the horses and provides necessary medical care as needed.

Huge fracking project in Wyoming affects wild horses and needs comments

The Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Continental Divide-Creston (CD-C) Natural Gas Development Project is now available for a 30-day public availability period.

Project Background
BP American Production Co. and approximately 20 other companies propose to develop up to 8,950 additional natural gas wells within a 1.1 million acre project area. Development would occur over the next 15 years with about 47,200 acres of new disturbance. An estimated 12.02 trillion cubic feet of natural gas worth $45.6 billion would be produced and 167.3 million barrels of condensate would generate revenues of $6.4 billion over the 30-40 year life of the project. More than 4,000 wells have been developed in the project area since the 1950s with approximately 49,218 acres of surface disturbance, including nearly 8,500 acres of long-term disturbance.

NEPA Status: The DEIS was released for public comment on Dec. 7, 2012, and ended on March 6, 2013. Approximately 8,700 DEIS comments were received.

Rosario Dawson Among 100 Democracy Spring Protesters Arrested at U.S. Capitol

Washington, DC — The number of arrests on the fifth day of civil disobedience protests known as Democracy Spring exceeded 800 on Friday. Youth and student was the fifth day of sit-ins outside the U.S. Capitol in a continuing series of the eight days of protests. Activists are confronting Congress over the influence of corporate lobbying and special interests in politics.

Actress Rosario Dawson joined the protesters at the sit-in, along with Harvard professor Dr. Lawrence Lessig and author Chris Hedges. All three were arrested.

“By being here and making history you are making yourself known,” Dawson told the protesters, before walking with them to the East side of the Capitol. She said that their actions were forcing Congressional leaders to step forward on getting money out of politics.

Dr. Lawrence Lessig also spoke to the youth explaining he chose this day to get arrested with them because he believed in what they were doing. “I’m gonna march around this Capitol and get arrested with you,” said Lessig.

Chris Hedges, author of Wages of Rebellion, said, “Any society that does not grasp that life has an intrinsic value beyond a monetary value kills itself.” He said that he was proud to be with youth organizing for change, but the movement for change must be sustained.

Lessig, Dawson, and Hedges were charged along with over 100 students and youth with “obstruction” of the driveway on the east side of the Capitol. They were later released and given fourteen days to pay a $50 fine.

Many traveled long distances, some from as far as Oregon and California, to join the Democracy Spring week of civil disobedience actions.

Activists are calling on Congress to set aside the influence of “dark money” from Super-PACs and the uber rich, which they say tilts legislation toward corporate agendas.

Other key issues included legislation pending for voting rights and fair elections, and a demand that the Senate act immediately to fill the Supreme Court vacancy. The Senate deferred holding a hearing to confirm the President’s nomination to the Supreme Court, despite the fact that Justice Antonin Scalia died ten months before Obama leaves office.

Democracy Spring messages managed to reach the halls of Congress. The protests were joined by several members of the House on Thursday, including Congressman Henry Johnson of Georgia, Keith Ellison of Minnesota, and Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California. They expressed support for Democracy Spring and urged the movement to keep fighting for rights for voters, workers, and families.

Representative Johnson told protesters on Thursday that Congressional members needed movements like Democracy Spring to help it pass legislation, and it was grassroots efforts that mobilized the people.

“We’re calling to the public the importance of civil disobedience and mass non-cooperation as the only way we’ve seen change happen in this country,” said Dylan Lazerow, National Field Organizer for Democracy Spring.

But the big issue relates to the impact of “dark money” on rights of the voters, noted Laserow. He said any effort to stem money influence flowing through Congress is going to take a sustained movement. “We know there is a super majority of people who believe there needs to be an end to big money corruption, but Congress is not responding to that,” said Lazerow.

James Cole, a member of Wolf PAC, a group working to pass an Amendment to get money out of politics, said he believes Democracy Spring is making an impact in the media. Cole has been arrested three times. “What we’re doing here is politically advantageous because in the future our message will keep growing,” he said.

“This is a call for people to come out,” said Lazerow.

Redmond, OR (April 13, 2016)—Americans are outraged. A government agency is experimenting and exploiting federally protected wild horses and burros. Advocates, unions and Native Americans are boycotting the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board meeting in Redmond, Oregon today and Thursday. The primary stakeholder—the American public—is being ignored.

“Members of the livestock industry as well as members of the Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board have suggested slaughter as a management tool for wild horses. Americans won’t stand for it. There would be an outbreak of protests nationwide. 2-Year Anniversary of Slaughter Bound Roundup!

Today marks the sad 2-year anniversary of the stealth BLM roundup, at the request of the Wyoming Livestock Board, that sent the majority of wild horses to slaughter for human consumption abroad. The whole herd, from near Greybull, Wyoming—on the way to the Pryor Mountains, was sent to a slaughter auction. The Canadian slaughterhouse bought everyone in the herd except for 4 tiny foals. All of the members of the wild herd over the age of 2 were quickly slaughtered for human consumption abroad.

Mark Boone Junior and I are grateful to have rescued everyone under the age of 2. These fourteen youngsters are known as the Wyoming 14™ (WY14™). The herd is named after them. They are growing up now. . .

In the past 2 years they have gone from the horrible roundup to the slaughterhouse yard, the neutral zone, layovers and to the Eco-Pasture with plans for them to live on the Eco-Sanctuary once it’s ready.

Because of the haters and the stalkers, as of February 26th we’ve had to enlist an armed security guard for $1000. a month. He is basically doing a favor. His fee breaks down to $34 a day so he can just cover his costs. He has already caught one trespasser and prevented other incidents. God bless him.

Haters who are PRO-SLAUGHTER, PRO-BLM, PRO-PZP, PRO-STERILIZATION and PRO-EXPERIMENT advocates plus jealous haters are trying to disguise their hate group as a “watchdog” group. Alleged horse advocates are now working with PRO-SLAUGHTER advocates to libel/slander us because they want to interfere with our mission to preserve wild horses. The haters want to cause damage and harm for various reasons. We have consulted with lawyers, have alerted the authorities and will protect our ability to carry out the organization’s work.

Enclosed is the letter from the vet who inspected the WY14™ in response to malicious and false allegations as well as vicious lies spread around Facebook by haters. Dr. Peck D.V.M. started working with BLM wild horses in the 80s and now works with many groups, organizations, etc. who rescue wild horses. Dr. Peck says, “…I would grade the condition of these horses as excellent. They appeared very healthy and showed no signs of malnutrition.” and “In my years of experience, this horse holding area is the best I have seen.”

Transparent Costs: The Wyoming 14™’s April eco-pasture rental is $2,500. (GFM/WP takes about a 10% fee on top so we are including the $250 fee here). Security is $1000. a month (GFM/RP takes about $100 so it’s included). The total is $3,850. If there is any extra money that comes in, it will be used only for the WY14™–to buy things they need like grain for example. The 250+ acre natural eco-pasture is helping the WY14™ so much because it resembles their natural habitat and is slowly helping to bring them back into balance.

The WY14™ herd will live in the Eco-Sanctuary once it is ready. At that point we can have visitors for events, etc. Right now we are looking for land and donors for the sanctuary. We are developing our business plan and natural herd management plan with experts to avoid inbreeding and enrich the planet with a sustainable, biodiverse program. Meeting Dr. Peck while rescuing wild horses

I first met Dr. Peck in 2013 when we were helping wild horses from the brutal Fort McDermitt roundup. Nevada advocates gave me his number to call. A lot of well known nonprofit organizations from out of state use Dr. Peck as well as Reno & Carson advocates. He has helped a lot of rescued wild horses.

One that comes to mind was a young Fort McDermitt filly who seemed to have vision issues in one eye. We were able to get her to a chute to have her and some of the other wild horses from the roundup examined thanks to a wonderful foundation who adopted her and saved hundreds of wild horses from slaughter.

Dr. Peck determined the filly was blind in one eye so at least we knew what we were all dealing with. The mare and filly went to Colorado and the little filly received the best of care thanks to a fabulous adopter.

As a veterinarian, Dr. Peck has a lot of experience with wild horses. We might have some different points of view on certain issues but as adults we can agree to disagree. . . I’m very grateful he came up to the eco-pasture and evaluated the WY14™ herd.

Many McDermitt wild horses were wounded somewhere between freedom and the Fallon Auction parking lot. I heard a lot had to be put down because they were so bashed up in transport : (

It’s sad that these days more Fort Mc Dermitt wild horses are being rounded up and sold to slaughter and no one is doing anything to stop it. In 2013, PROTECT MUSTANGS stopped 2 years of McDermitt roundups, partnering with Jordan Beckett’s org, because the feds violated NEPA. Sadly now they are back at rounding them up. I bet the KBs are getting the horses fresh from the roundup. . . Have you ever wondered why this issue is so quiet?

$10,000 Reward for information on Wild Horse shooting

The Bureau of Land Management is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for shooting and killing a wild horse in early October 2015 at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, near Carson City, Nevada.

The BLM currently manages thousands of wild horses in accordance with the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, which gives the agency a mandate to protect and manage the animals. The Northern Nevada Correctional Center/Stewart Conservation Camp Saddle Horse and Burro Training Program is a cooperative partnership between the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Nevada Department of Corrections-Silver State Industries. Through this training program, wild horses and burros are gentled and trained before being adopted. About 60 wild horses and burros are trained and adopted at the facility each year. Currently, the Northern Nevada Correctional Center horse program houses and maintains approximately 1,500 BLM horses.

Wild horses rescued from slaughterhouse are stalked, harassed by pro-slaughter & pro-sterilization advocates

Retaliation scheme against Protect Mustangs for speaking out against sterilization and slaughter

The pro-slaughter, pro-experiment on pregnant mares, pro-sterilization, pro-pzp advocates are posing as horse advocates in the “Sinister Solutions” group on Facebook. They broadcast the BLM agenda on their Facebook page sprinkled with BLM employees. It’s like an endless biased talk show. They bash and lie about real advocates championing the rights of America’s wild horses and Facebook lets them do it.

Several members of Sinister Solutions started a new group to lead the smear against us, the WY14™ and Protect Mustangs™. They are spreading lies, bashing, bullying and harassing us. They want to hurt the March pasture board fundraiser for the Wyoming 14™ (WY14™) https://www.gofundme.com/MustangPasture3-16 and they want to hurt the wild horses.

The sinister group launched a Facebook page to find the WY14™ in their private location so they would lose their safety. Now their location has been disclosed to many pro-slaughter people. What is the real motive of the group run by BLM supporters?

Several haters and jealous people also joined the Facebook group to be part of the hate-fest. Their goal is to hurt donations for the WY14™ so the orphans of slaughter can’t pay their pasture board for March. They are trying to put them at-risk.

These online bullies are not only hoping for neglect but they are interfering in our program and work. It seems they are also threatening to cause harm. The pro-slaughter, pro-sterilization advocates are plotting to “swoop in to take them”. . . But we aren’t going to let that happen.

We have contacted the authorities. Protect Mustangs has enlisted an armed security guard for an additional $1000. per month after receiving screenshots of the stalkers plotting in the Facebook group. The WY14™ board is $2,500. Security is now $1000. and then GoFundMe/WP takes 10% combined for processing. That makes the total $3,850. per month until we can move them to a new location. You will remember that I spoke about the one mustang who escaped during loading from the layover sanctuary last August. His name is White Socks and he was invited to stay at Dreamcatcher for the winter. The haters and pro-slaughter people have been spreading lies to create hysteria that he was missing when we had already told supporters he was there. They even went as far as to violate copyright laws to harass and bully us. This is vicious, illegal and there’s more to it.

The WY14™ are sad that their peaceful eco-pasture has been ruined by stalkers with telephoto cameras posting smears on Facebook, spewing jealously, hatred and bad energy. The WY14™ were starting to get better after all the trauma from the BLM roundup where everyone over the age of 2 was killed at slaughter for human consumption. Now they are being persecuted again. . .

Keep in mind all this is happening when a few members of the WY14™ are going to contribute foals. These fertility-haters are spying on the pregnant mares, making false claims to animal welfare agencies and then rushing off on Facebook to spread gloom and doom about their pregnancies, calling them “rank”, “inbred”, and “ugly”, etc. This is so  wrong.
